"To praise the sun is to praise our own eyes." - Rumi
Worship of the sun and solar deities is a concept nearly as old as mankind itself, and can be found in ancient civilizations all across the world; ancient Egypt, pre-Islamic Arabia, Buddhism, Chinese mythology, Insular Celtic culture, Greco-Roman, Hinduism, Indian mythology, and in the Aztec world.
For the people of ancient Egypt, the sun was a source of life, light, growth and wisdom. The sun god Ra was one of the most important gods in ancient Egyptian religion, and was believed to rule all parts of the created world - the sky, the earth, and the underworld.
Sol Invictus was a celebration of the sun's rebirth, taking place on the winter solstice, December 25th. It is believed that this date was later adapted as the date of the birth of Christ by Constantine in an effort to merge paganism into Christianity to maintain religious and political order within the empire. The halo often seen on Christ and Mary is said to be a symbol of sun worship.
The Sun Worship Amulet is inspired by these ancient traditions and worship of our natural world, before the influx of control and order that is maintained today in our modern society. Let it bring you closer to our natural world, and allow it to invite light, love, warmth and growth into your life.
